The family behind it

A Long Island Plumbing Business, Run by One Family Since 2004

Ray and Denise Flowers started this company out of a van in Massapequa. Two decades on, their son runs the schedule, Ray still runs calls, and “Flow’s” is still a family name rather than a marketing one.

Ray in 2004, the year the company started.

How it started

One Van, One Landline, and a Rule About Telling the Truth.

Ray Flowers came up through a Freeport shop in the late eighties and spent seventeen years working for other people. What pushed him to go on his own was watching a customer get sold a full sewer replacement for a problem he knew was a single failed joint.

He and Denise started Flow’s in 2004 with one van and a rule they still hold: tell the homeowner what is actually wrong, quote the smallest fix that solves it, and never sell off the back of an inspection.

Mike came into the business in 2010 and now runs scheduling, quoting and every job that involves a permit. Tony joined in 2014 and runs most of our emergency work. Denise still answers the phone, which is why you get a person and not a queue.

What we believe

The Plumbing Is the Easy Part. The Trust Is the Job.

Most plumbing is solvable. What homeowners actually worry about is whether the person in their basement is telling them the truth, and whether the number at the end will match the number at the start.

So we diagnose before we quote, we put the price in writing at the door, and if we find something behind a wall we stop and re-quote rather than adding it to the bill.

Every job ends with a free walk of your shutoffs, water pressure, heater and exposed lines — and we tell you what we found whether or not there is work in it for us.

Ray started as an apprentice in Freeport in 1987 and opened Flow's in 2004 with a van and a landline. He still runs calls three days a week, mostly because Denise cannot talk him out of it. If you get Ray on a sewer job, you are getting the person who has seen the most bad pipe on Long Island.

Ray's son, and the reason jobs actually start when we said they would. Mike schedules the trucks, quotes the bigger renovations and handles anything involving a permit. He is the person to ask if you want a straight answer about what a job will really cost.

Tony Serrano, Lead Service Technician

Tony runs most of our emergency calls and has an unreasonable talent for finding leaks nobody else can locate. Homeowners regularly ask for him by name. He is patient with questions and will show you what he found rather than just telling you about it.

The voice on the phone, and the one who decides how fast we get to you. Denise has been triaging Long Island plumbing emergencies since 2004 and can usually tell from your description whether you need a truck tonight or a Tuesday.

How a job goes

No Surprises, in the Order They Happen.

The part homeowners dread about calling a plumber is not knowing what it will cost or who will turn up. Here is exactly how ours goes.

1

You call, a person answers

Denise or Mike picks up. You describe what it is doing, we tell you whether it needs a truck today or can wait until Tuesday.

Our promise

Every Job Ends With a Free Whole-Home Plumbing Check.

Before we pack up, we walk your shutoffs, water pressure, water heater and exposed lines and tell you what we found — good or bad. No upsell, no scare tactics. Most of the expensive calls we get were cheap problems six months earlier.

Is the house safe?

We check shutoffs, gas bonding, water pressure and anything visibly failing. If something is a hazard, you hear about it that day.

What is about to cost you?

A seeping valve, a bulging supply line, a heater full of scale. Small now, expensive later — we would rather you knew.

Written up, not upsold

You get the findings in writing. No quote attached, no follow-up call. Fix it with us, fix it yourself, or leave it.

We Live Here Too.

Our kids went through the same schools, we shop at the same places, and we run into customers at the deli. That is a real constraint on how you do business — you cannot cut a corner on a house whose owner you will see on Saturday.

We sponsor the Massapequa little league, we do the plumbing at the food pantry for free, and every October we winterize outside taps for anyone over seventy who calls and asks.

Water heater went on a Sunday with a house full of family. Tony was here in an hour and a half, had the tank on the truck, and we had hot water before dinner. Priced it before he started and that was the price.

Two other companies quoted me for a full sewer replacement. Ray cameraed the line, showed me the footage, and said one joint was the problem. Spot repair, a third of the price. That is a rare thing.

We flooded twice before we called Flow’s. They put in a proper pit, a real pump and a battery backup, and then fixed the grading outside that nobody else had mentioned. Dry through the last two nor’easters.

Mike handled the plumbing for our whole kitchen renovation and was the only trade on the job who hit every date. He also caught a galvanized line in the wall that would have been a nightmare later.

Kitchen sink backed up every few months for years. They jetted the line instead of just snaking it and explained exactly why it kept happening. Two years later, no problems.

Burst pipe at 11pm in February. A real person answered, told me which valve to shut while they drove over, and stayed until it was dry. I have recommended them to half my block since.

Converted us from oil to gas and coordinated everything, including the parts that were National Grid’s job. I did not have to chase anybody once. Bills dropped immediately.
